Paul has written the book of ANGELA’S ASHES – A MUSICAL with the composer/ lyricist Adam Howell, adapting the Pullitzer prize-winning novel by Frank McCourt of the same name. The musical received its World Premiere production directed by Thom Southerland starring Jacinta Whyte in Limerick before opening in Dublin in July 2017 to four and five star reviews, at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre and then on to Belfast Grand Opera House. The show will be touring again in Ireland and the UK again in 2019.
Paul has written over forty plays for the stage and has taught writing at degree and postgraduate level for many years both in the UK and across Europe, with several of his students winning national and international competitions. He was a founder-member of both Back Door and Big Pig theatre companies. As well as his stage work Paul has also written for BBC Schools Radio Drama and Swedish EB.
He is also working with Adam Howell on BLONDE – a musical based on the life and times of Marilyn Monroe which was in a workshop production at the RADA Festival 2018.
Paul’s other projects include a radio play adapting H E Bates’ work and A PORTRAIT OF JEANNIE – a new play about Nottingham in the 1950s and HATFUL OF HOLLOW, a play-cycle based on the iconic Smiths album.
