The first series of Charles’s original comedy HOLD THE SUNSET aired on BBC1 on Sunday evenings (February-March, 2018). Developed by With One Bound and produced by Moira Williams for BBC Studios, the series stars John Cleese, Alison Steadman, Jason Watkins and Anne Reid. The director is Sandy Johnson. A Christmas episode went out on 23 December 2018 and Series 2,now including Sue Johnston, awaits transmission.
Charles’s work in film includes the extraordinary THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS, Charles sharing writing duties with director Terry Gilliam. Starring the late Heath Ledger in his last role – a role taken over mid-way through production by Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law – the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2009 and was widely award-nominated.
Charles regularly undertakes re-writing assignments including:horror/comedy THE KATAKOMB KLUB for Studio Urania, Rome and director Michele Soave and psychological thriller THE WOMAN I LOVE for director Douglas Law and Produire à Paris, France.
Charles also writes for the stage, most recently adapting Pierre Chesnot’s popular French stage comedy À VOS SOUHAITS (under English title THE SNEEZE) for its English language premiere.
